David Adjaye
Lives and works in London, England

Adjaye was born in Tanzania and travelled in Africa and the Middle East during his youth before settling in London. He graduated in Architecture from the Royal College of Art (1993), set up his first office in 1994 with William Russel before reforming it as Adjaye Associates in 2000. Adjaye Associates now has four international offices conducting projects throughout the world. His most prestigious commission to date is the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. He is concerned with the social responsibility of Architecture, especially visible in the Sugar Hill Project in Harlem, a new typology for affordable housing.
